It was a fun day in Puyallup, near the base of Mt. Rainier. We learned about bears and tigers and HUSKIES - who incidently were visiting the Bay Area! The day was crisp and typically fall-like. Leaves were shaking themselves from branches and squirrels were finding places to stuff their nuts. Some of these events were real - others we learned from a book. Life was good! The sheep learned from Owen that they were supposed to be saying "Bah-ah-ah!" All the wanna-be farmers stopped and listened to the words of wisdom Owen had offered - Their lives will change forever.
Then, the city of Orting, soon to be covered with volcanic sediment from Mt. Rainier, anxiously summoned Owen into their secret "Pumpkin" club. Owen quickly came through the secret door... Now, it's better for all! Just a simple day in the life a super hero!

is owen the luckiest little grandson and nephew ever? i mean if he's not off to disneyland with the local peeps he's exploring a gorgeous northwest day in the pumpkin patch with grammmma and grapa.
really though, i feel pretty lucky that our guy is so loved. it was a spectacular family visit! thanks to the big fids!
oh, and here he is snuggling up with only ONE of his favorite uncles and aunties. more pics to come!
Cara! I have tried to write a post to you a couple of times but, amazingly, have been interrupted. Apparently there are three little people who live here with me and who think they need my attention or something...anyway, I wanted to tell you that when Stephen was 22 months old and I was 4 months pregnant with Clare I took Stephen to Amsterdam to visit my Mom for ten days. Liam was taking his Ph.D. exams and the ship my Mom was working on was docked in the harbor in Amsterdam...so we went. The travel went really well as far as Stephen was concerned. He was much like Owen - totally into transportation and easily occupied with bookish things. But we also did tons of walking laps around the plane and running up and down ramps in the airport (we had one layover in D.C. on the way). I remember Stephen actually cried when we got OFF the plane in D.C....apparently the flight wasn't long enough for him :). Let me know if you want to chat about toddler traveling...
amy you're an inspiration--again and again! i'd love some corley wisdom ;)
the "practice" trip to seattle was a success--i had 4 ziplock bags of various activities (who knew ziplock bags would replace color-cordinating file folders as my organizational tool of choice!)including fat washable crayons with a sketch pad and an elmo coloring book. i took out one color at a time and that was a good 20 minute distraction. we also brought our seuss abcs and owen was so animated i think the businessboys queing up for the bathroom were ready to snuggle up too!
and ramps at the airport are great! we take off this friday so if you get a quiet moment (or can hide in the bathroom when liam gets home!) and can spare some phone time i'd love to hear from you. i'll email you my mobiel number.
